How steemit helped me rediscover a lost passion.
I have not really been drawing at all since I started studying psychology 2 years ago. Mainly because I always have some exam that I should read for or some project that feels more urgent than taking the time to draw. Ironically I often end up watching a movie or Netflix instead of studying or drawing...
Since I became active on steemit about three months ago I have been rediscovering my inspiration for drawing, but it was not until today when I found this drawing challenge hosted by that I decided to give it a shot. The reason why I wanted to participate in this particular challenge is that the theme is draw your hand and I used to love drawing hands in high school!
I had not drawn a hand in five years before today which I could notice in the process, but I am still quite happy with the result.
The process
I started by placing my left hand on a blank paper on the side of the one I would draw on, to better be able to see the shades that my hand would cast.
Then I started drawing the outline of my hand starting from the left side of the wrist and finishing with the thumb and right side of the wrist. But I was not quite happy with the result...
The hand was looking way too wide, so I erased almost all of it and started again - this time from the thumb. At last I was kind of happy with the outline, it still looked too wide and a bit strange but I knew it would look different once the shading was done.
Here is the second outline:
And then I got carried away with the shading and I completely forgot to take pictures of that process until the drawing was almost completely done.
But when I was looking at the pictures I realized that the part between the index finger and the thumb looked a bit too skinny so I decided to remake it.
The final result
There are still things that could be improved and my drawing skills have become a bit rusty, but I am really happy that I gave it a shot! My new environment and my theatre studies are really boosting my creativity and I now remember how much I love drawing.
So thank you steemit for helping me rediscover my lost passion for drawing!
And thank you to everyone taking the time to have a look at the hand I drew. I really appreciate it!
