Dear Steemit Friends,
Thank you 's for this drawing challenge.
The theme of the challenge is to create a card for my teacher. I have many great teachers and mentors in my life and since the challenge is for 'a teacher', I want to dedicate this card to who has given valuable guidance to teach me how to do better blog posts in the past week.
When I came into Steemit platform 3 weeks ago, I didn't know anyone at all. Since my Blog is about 'traveling', I came to know many Steemit travelers. Sweetsssj posts always appear at the top of the pages, and since I will be going off to Dubai and Turkey at the end of the month, I was very eager to follow her Turkey travels. Her presentation was so captivating that I finally got in touch with her to ask her if she could take a look at my blog.
Within a minute, she wrote back to me & asked me for my 'url' link. She gave me some very good advice and became my mentor in the few minutes that we chatted. I am forever grateful that she really took the time to guide me and gave me specific instructions. We all know how busy she is these days but she was so willing to give her time at no cost. I am forever grateful. From thereon, she became my Steemit Blogger Teacher!
For Steemit newbies, the following 4 points are what she gave me in our chat in summary form. I want to share these blogging gems with you.:
- Formatting (Bolds, Headers, Italics, Sections, Alignment)
- Quality of Pictures (Clarity, colour, composition)
- Flow of the post (Story board with supplementary narrative to help bolster the information in the pictures)
- Personality (Add your experience, angle, and why it's special to you)
Why I chose Penguins for the drawing challenge?
- I chose penguins because they are rare and funny.
- Penguins also move in groups and are not loners. So as steemit bloggers, we must not move alone. We need to interact with Steemit community.
- For the first 2 weeks, I was alone by myself and lost in this steemboat. If you find that you are in that situation, read other people's blogs and interact with them like I do.
Look at me. The little penguin guy is me.
I am wavering and trying to walk on ice step-by-step to move along with confidence. Doesn't this look like a lot of us Steemit newbies who came on board in August? It is a good thing we have many Steemit veterans ahead of us. This is only my 3rd week here and am loving this Steemit community interaction.
Basic Material for the Drawing
- Different brush tip color pens. You don't need a lot but just enough to mix and match.
- I chose these colors: red, green, purple, yellow and blue.
- I didn't want to use black for the penguins so I substituted it with purple and blue to make the penguins more delightful to look at.
- One water brush
The Procedure of the Drawing
Step 1: Sketch a basic outline of the picture
Step 2: Use Different Color Brush Pens to Write the words.
I used cursive calligraphy writing to make the words more personal so that it looks as if I am writing this in a real card.
Step 3: Use Blue Tip Brush to outline the 2 Penguins
Step 4: Spend more time to work on the Penguins to make them look fun and unique to you.
It took me an hour to work on all the details and to decide what colors to use for the body and feet to make them stand out.
Step 5: Use Purple Tip Brush and Water brush to color the side of the Penguin
Step 6: Use Blue Ink and water brush in water to create a blue ice platform for the penguins to walk on
Step 7: Final step to finish the drawing - Use Blue Ink to color the Steem Logo and Steem
Step 8: Use Water Brush to create shadows to your username
Step 9: Erase all the pencil marks! Voila - the Final Product.
Shhhh...... can Steemians here spot the mistake of the Steemit logo color. I am new so I have mixed the blue shades?
That's it Steemians!
It takes 6 hours for me to finish the entire drawing.
It takes me 4 hours to do this blog post as I needed to choose and adjust the 60 photo jpg that I took in the process.
Hope you enjoyed reading the process that goes through in creating a thank you card.
Hope you also join 's challenge and draw a card for your teacher this week.
