Actually in Indonesia drift & slalom has long been coming around 2007-2009 when tokyo drift movie was released, but it's booming around 2014 until now and I'm a newcomer in this hobby ( around 1 year).
I will explain a little bit of the difference between drift and slalom, because some people are almost misunderstood.

Slalom
Slalom in Indonesia started from its trend of drifting in America and Japan. Because almost all small cars and sedans in Indonesia can do it. So given the name Slalom which means to twist our cars and our expertise in controlling the car. In Indonesia today is very famous whose name is slalom because in addition to raising your adrenal hormone slalom also does not require a very extreme engine changes to get a very large power. The important thing the car can ngesot and can make the audience applauded lively, usually only to seek funs with friends or seek fame only, usually play on public roads.

Drifting
Drifting originated from Japan. Japanese youths who often race through mountainous roads that have an oval-shaped curve so that these young people pull their car's hand brake so that the car can swing beautifully and in rhythm, but it is also done to shorten the time in passing through the environment. Drifting in Japan has existed since 21 years ago. And only rampant in America about 11 years ago, and because the vehicle manufacturers in America produce many cars rear wheel drive, so mushrooming virus common among young people. Drifting requires funds that are not small because if the drifter (a name for people who like drifting) just rely on their standard car power, drifting produced not too long. In addition to machines that must be upgraded, drifters must also upgrade their braking systems, suspension systems or legs, as well as their car chassis. Drifting can only be done for rear-wheel drive cars.
