I recently decided to buy a drone. I had seen video of person on YouTube chasing a cruise ship with a DJI Mavic. I was sold. I knew I needed to get one of these so I would not fall behind this kind of technology.
I researched a few drones, and came to the conclusion that DJI was the brand to go with. Compared to the other companies like GoPro, they could not compete with the technology that DJI has. They truly are the Apple of drones.
DJI has a number of drones, and has recently started selling a drone called the Spark. It's a palm size drone with many great features. The problem is that it is not completely stable and the camera quality is not as high performing compared to the DJI Mavic Pro. The benefit is that it cost $499.
The other DJI option was the DJI Mavic Pro. This was a drone that costs $999, so almost double the price of the Spark, but it shoots in 4K and has a 3-axis gimbal for the camera. The Spark has a 1080p camera and a 2-axis gimbal.
I came to the conclusion if I was buying this for the long-term, and that I wanted to learn the technology, then I should spend the extra money and get the Mavic. And am I glad I made that decision.
The Mavic is a blast to fly. There has not been a day I have not flown it once since getting it. I have never flown a drone before ever, but I had this flying 200 meters high the first day I got it. With the technology behind it, it is difficult to crash or lose this machine.
Here is footage from my first flight:
I highly recommend the DJI Mavic Pro for the experience of using drones, for the beginner to the pro.
