She marched to her own beat,
While others left their seats
She murmured a song that no one else liked.
The edges of her sound spiked,
Different and new.
Ready for her to lead a coup!
She whispered it hard.
Just a little sound that jarred.
There was nothing harmonious,
And others left feeling acrimonious.
This was hers alone and no one else was allowed.
This was her solo song to sing quietly proud.
It was something she had to do.
The bitterness she knew, would ensue,
And as she sang another song that wasn't like any before
There would be no cries of encore…Encore!
It sounded so different that fingers got stuck in ears,
But she could not worry about THEIR fears.
THEY didn't like it!
THEY thought it was wrong!
It went against the tide
And many could not abide
the sound she made
As It began to pervade…
Her little voice being heard.
Because it was unlike anything else,
A sound that went through you
And made you sit up
and listen
Even when you didn't want to.
It was newness!
“It was ugly!”
Or so THEY said.
But she carried on,
BEATING away at the layers
of conventional wisdom
A discordance
To their accordance.
This was her time
to sound another
beat.
Beat
them
with their own sound/s
The Little Voice mused.
This wasn't something she’d planned.
She didn't know
what to do,
but she let the new rhythm
carry her through…
Through a new pathway.
A path less travelled.
It made all the difference.
DISSONANCE was her sound!
