Welcome!
Today's podcast is about something that ALL of us can relate to...PROCRASTINATION!
I have dealt with my fair share of procrastination and it's really hard to battle. I've been fortunate enough to grow up learning from my Dad who has always been an extremely hard worker who's owned his own business, so his success entirely relied on his effort levels. I've grown up with a super strong work ethic to the point that I feel guilty or like something is physically wrong if I don't get something productive done each day. This has led to me really analyzing why I can stay motivated, how to keep that motivation going during times or stress, grieving, overworking, etc. and also strategies that make it all easier!
*Jump to 3:40 to get right to the first strategy
There are MANY different strategies that can help boost your productivity and curb that procrastination desire! In the podcast I mention quite a few but just two of those strategies are building lists and breaking your work into parts. When you build lists you put your mind to rest by knowing what there is to do, never forgetting the next task and becoming sidetracked, instead you can stay on top of things and keep from being overwhelmed with lists.
I like my lists in three types:
- Small lists: things you can accomplish in 1 day or at most 2 days. This list should clear each day.
- Medium lists: things you can accomplish in a 1-4 weeks. Generally composed of completing multiple small list tasks.
- Large lists: things you can accomplish in 1 month to 1 year.
- Goal lists: things you want to accomplish over the course of your career.
When you get in the habit of building these you see exactly what you can do as a human and what you currently are not doing! Another really helpful strategy is to break your work into smaller sections that are timed. If you find that you start losing focus around 45 minutes in, then forcing yourself to sit and 'work' for another hour is pointless if you're operating at the pace of a child. Instead, take a 5-10 minute break to do some sort of exercise whether it be stretching, some core exercises or going for a brisk walk. Your brain works quicker when you are exercising and you will come back to your work refreshed with new motivation.
These are just a few of the strategies but there are so many more in the podcast! I hope this serves you well and I hope you enjoy the podcast, thanks for supporting, my friends!
