Today I'm posting my most recent track, Velvet Window.
This is a track that I'm particularly proud of as a whole. I think it really nails a lot of the sounds that I've been enjoying lately, but more importantly, I had a lot of fun lately and it was a pretty large departure in how I got about making music.
This song originally started as a remix of an ambient song that I'm very partial to, Color Loss by From the Mouth of The Sun. Dropping the original track into Max For Live's Granular, through a series of happy accidents I ended up with a bassline that seemed incredibly unique and textured. On a whim I decided to extract that audio to MIDI and before I knew it I had the main synth of the track.
From there this became an experiment with a Max For Live recreation of Audible Instruments' Clouds. This is easily one of the most inspirational devices I've ever used and allowed me to blur the edges of this song during the breakdown. I'd like to thing the middle is where things get special as the song falls apart.
I hope you enjoy what I've put together here. Let me know what you think.
