I found this instrumental mix of Descend last night. I know everyone loves vocals, but sometimes I feel like they just get in the way.
I've always been more of a composer than an actual songwriter. What I find most interesting about music is all the harmonic layers underneath the melody.
It took many years of frustration to finally realize that most people don't actually feel that way.
Years of various producers, engineers, and fellow musicians arguing with me about my mixes being too busy.
They couldn't understand that in my mind, a certain synth or sound effect was just as important to me as my vocal.
I guess my densely packed mixes are a representation of what is going on with me internally.
Sometimes all the layers have to battle it out in an emotionally intense, neurotic way.
The composer Debussy said:
"Music is the silence between the notes".
Isaria says:
"Fill up that silence with more notes!"
Debussy would not approve.
