This song was written by Aleksandr Kolker in 1967 for the soundtrack to the film The Chronicle of a Dive Bomber.
I first heard it as a cover by Egor Letov in the 1990s. Letov recorded a version for his band Kommunizm's album Khronika pikiruyushchego bombardirovshchika. I liked Letov`s version very much and covered the song.
Let me know if you like it.
English translation:
Fog, fog, gray shroud.
Far, far behind the mists - the war.
There are battles without us, but there is no blame for us -
We are chained to the ground by fog,
Air Workers War.
Fog, fog - on the past, on the past.
Far, far behind the mist - our home.
And in the front dugout we dream about childhood -
It is evident that we all matured early,
Air Workers of War.
Fog, mist enveloped the earth again.
Far, far behind the mists - love.
For a long time we wait for the bride from the other side.
Not all of us will return from this flight,
Air Workers of War.
