This time around, I've got 23 minutes of movie talk for you.
In this episode, I grab my chance to sound like a film snob. After Inuke tells me that ( he believes ) Quentin Tarantino is one of the greatest ever lived, I explain why I have a tendency to evade the films and filmmakers that everybody likes and talks about. We then get balk to the opening scene from Pulp Fiction that Inuke was referring to. This leads to us talking about starting movies in the middle of ( an ) action. When Inuke mentions that Jurassic Park is one of his favorite movies, I thank him and tell him we'll talk about that one later.
We then get into how we remember movies. I explain that there is way more to a movie than just story or plot. Me mentioning that I often remember a movie for the attention paid to a certain aspect - for instance colour - makes Inuke think of a George Clooney film from around the turn of the Century ( apparently O Brother Where Art Thou, 2000 ). This makes me laugh a little, because I realize - not for the first time - that we don't necessarily like the same kind of movies. Then I start talking like somewhat of a film snob again but I make up for it by saying a little more about the work of The Coen Brothers ( who wrote, produced and directed that film ).
Around 10 minutes in, we start reminiscing about a film that both of us love: Jurassic Park ( 1993 ). I proof, not for the first time, that I don't remember the start of most movies ( being interested in all elements that a film consists of ) and Inuke starts sharing his memories on the first time he watched JP, in cinema, aged 6 or 7. A feeling of jealousy starts to creep up to me. I explain this feeling, by sharing the story about my first watch of JP. I actually wrote a post about it, last year.
I explain that the first movie that I remember to have watched in cinema was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ( not in 1937 though, I'm not that ancient). If I could pick one classic to start out with, I would probably go for Jurassic Park too :>)
We both get lost in memories of the early 1990s and end up talking about how it's possible that I never got to see JP in cinema...
Enjoy the conversation and if you have a Jurassic Park memory yourself, please be so kind as to drop it in the comment section to this post. Remarks on Tarantino or The Coen Brothers are also welcome ( but I can't promise to applaud you for it)
My apologies for the audio quality on Inuke's side. He told me he's gonna invest in a new headset soon as it probably annoys him most of all.
My earlier post on JP: Movie Memories - Jurassic Park
The cover image to this post is a drawing that I made back in the 1980s, years before Jurassic Park. It depicts the village of the Smurfs and a dragon that vaguely looks like a dinosaur, so I find it fitting enough.
