"Conspiracy theorist": does it deserve to be viewed as a derogatory term?

Are you crazy to think a conspiracy is involved in an event where a group of individuals likely colluded to commit a crime? Or is the derogatory association attached to it merely a skillful use of a smear technique used by thought controllers and censors to suppress those seeking truth about our world and society.
