Stokbrood?

Every South African kid that went to "Voortrekkers" (aka Girl/Boy Scouts) will remember being taught to make stokbrood over an open flame on one or more 'camps'.

Every now and then we get to rekindle those fond memories when we teach it to our kids.

There is no wiki for Stokbrood, but in short: it's an old Voortrekker way of making bread sticks. Bread dough is wrapped around a stick and cooked/baked over and open flame, and usually sees everyone making/baking their own. A helluva lot of fun when you're camping with kids.

Jimmy's Stokbroood?

As per usual, I can't just follow a traditional recipe on #BraaiBoyTV and like putting a spin or twist of sort on a recipe that I try out. And this episode is no different.

Traditionally stockbrood can be eaten AS IS (maybe a little farm butter), or cut open and filled with boerewors (sausage) and sauce. So... what would happen if you put some of that sauce INTO the dough before baking?

Time on our hands

In a previous episode I visited the folks at Riviera Meatmarket and we did a creamy brandy fillet to promote their beef fillet that was on special. They also happen to be the owners of one of the oldest pubs in Pretoria (Sinkhuis 1892) and at the after-party we decided to make this fun little campside treat.

Please check the video and you'll find out what happens when I put some Jimmy's Sauces into the dough mix, and wrap it around a cheesegriller before baking it.

A HUUUGE shoutout to Sinkhuis 1892 in Pretoria for showing us such a great time. Those of you that are observant will notice that we ended the shoot well into the evening... which may or may not have to do with the fact that their "house wine" is actually Jägermeister :-)
