Hello Dtube! I'm sorry for being away for so long... I hope you are all doing swell, as I am now. (finally got over that nasty flu virus).
I'm uploading this video addressing some of the safety concerns revolving Cairo, Egypt.
As many of you know, Cairo experienced a fair amount of terrorist attacks in 2017, and 2018 doesn't seem to be very promising. That being said, to see the Grand Pyramid of Giza is a life dream for many people around the world, and some of you may be contemplating the idea of going to Egypt and facing the fear.
This quick video may give you some insight on whether or not you should go.
My goal was to test the level of danger in Cairo... perhaps a bit foolish, but I chose to walk freely around the streets (no guide, local friends, security) and wandered into some of the city's poorest areas.
I kept my camera rig (gorilla tripod, Canon 70D, shotgun microphone, 10-18mm lens) in my hand the entire time, as well as my cellphone. If anyone was planning to rob me, this would be the PERFECT time, so I was prepared to lose all my stuff that day. Don't ever attempt this, unless you're willing to face the consequences...
I don't recommend you behave the same way when/if you go to Egypt, but perhaps my "audacity" will give you an idea on just how safe/unsafe you can be.
Please do take this with a grain of salt, it is only MY experience, and it does not mean that other people have not been through better or worst. This is only one person's perspective, so don't take my words as gospel.
This is for all you travelers! I hope it's useful.
