It may be spring, but its not to late to get your seeds started indoors! If you are interested in starting some of your own seeds, then this video will be a help to you.
Some people like to buy young plants from the store and transplant them in, but I believe starting your own, if you can, is a better way to go.
One reason to start your own seeds, is the vast number of different varieties you can find online. For instance if you want to grow tomatoes, online their are 1,000’s of different varieties to choose from, but if you go buy them from a “big box store”, their will only be a small number of varieties to choose from.
Another reason to start your own seeds, is because it is much cheaper to buy a pack of about 30-50 seeds for around $2.00, rather then paying that same $2.00 for only one grown plant.
One of the main reasons I love starting my own seeds though, is because often time the plants from the store are born and raised as drug addicts. What I mean by this is, often times the “big box stores” heavily fertilize their plants to keep them looking green and healthy, but the plants are hooked on the chemical nutrients they are “fed” with. This is unfortunate, because often times when you take those plants home and transplant them, if you don’t continue feeding them with a chemical fertilizer, they will quickly become unhealthy and could die. This is discouraging for gardeners and it can sometimes feel like its your fault, when the main reason is because you are growing with plants that are kept alive, rather then truly living and thriving.
My goal isn’t to discourage you from buying plants from the stores, but to rather encourage you to start your own seeds, if you are able.
