I'm not sure what exactly the ranking should be...but the media is owned by large corporations...which don't have any morals or anything, because they're not people, unless you ask the republicans. They are purely for profit.
There are too many questionable things these days to say the media isn't copy-editing stories to manipulate opinion. They change a word here or there, and it completely changes the slant of the story. There are tons of studies out there about their wording and the slant of different outlets. I don't really know why headlines want us all to hate black people, or think women in power are crazy whackos, or why different candidates are "un-electable" before debates even happen...but that's what they do. Pretty much every news media slants public opinion and even personal beliefs, slowly changing how you think, the very definition of propaganda. They do a way better job than historical propaganda though.
I do sometimes wonder how it's done though.
