Hi DTube! This is the second episode of my Longplay series, where I intend to play some FOSS games that take a little more time to get into! Each episode of the Longplay series will feature a single game being played for an extended period of time, at least 30 minutes, but sometimes more. In particular I will use this series to highlight roguelikes, which are a seminal genre that FOSS excels in. I may at some point play other types of games as well!
This episode focuses on Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup (DCSS), which is a very popular roguelike game that began life as a fork of the 1997 game Linley's Dungeon Crawl. DCSS uses the familiar roguelike formula of dungeon exploration, monster fighting, and loot collecting, with the ultimate goal of finding the Orb of Zot and escaping alive. The game is extremely polished and has to live up to very strict design goals, which help keep feature creep under control. DCSS is licensed under the GNU GPL version 2.
You can also play DCSS in the browser on the official site! Here is a link, where source, binary, and web versions are all available: http://crawl.develz.org/
