This is the first video of a 4 part minor series where well known tunes are analysed for the purpose of illustrating the unique
emotions each different minor scale produces.
(the other videos feature harmonic, dorian and melodic minors)
This ‘song’ approach to learning scales was lacking for me in my earlier musical training. The memorisation of scales was an academic activity associated with exams, not emotions!
I want to take the opportunity here of sharing
songs I love that use the natural minor to such great effect.
I hope they will help the music student
become acquainted with the sounds these
scales produce in a deeper way
than just being black dots on lines!
