Finally had some time to have a nice little training session by myself on silks...
Well, not by myself. I was training "alone" but the gym was busy with kids running wild, different songs playing on different devices and lots of noise. Not the ideal training set up if you want to have a solo improv focusing on breath and ease...
But looking around the gym while perched on the silk, I thought actually this is the perfect environment to challenge myself to work against my fight or flight response, find room for breath and just be even though there is a lot of action going on around me.
One thing about training for performance- any type of performance, you need to rehearse the way you want to perform. If you are doing a hard strength move you need to rehearse it with a relaxed face and as if you were performing it. I always say to my students "DONT SHOW IT ON YOUR FACE!" If you are showing pain or exertion, confusion or stress.. it makes it difficult to connect to other emotions and share that with an audience. Some people say- oh but I won't do that in performance...but you will! And the reality of circus performance is you could be doing it anywhere and you can't control an audience so you have to be ready for anything.
You have to rehearse the way you want to perform.
Circus has taught me so much about how I want to show up in my life, but in life, you don't get a rehearsal. This is it. A few more things I was thinking about yesterday while dangling that I'm meditating on today...
The moments you want to skip over, slow down. Often where we want to rush is where we don't feel comfortable or have doubt. Breathe into them and see what happens.
Pain is temporary, strength is necessary and breath makes everything easier
It's okay to be witnessed in process. It is nice to train alone and fail alone, but failing in a room full of people or trying new things even though someone may be watching is important work for an artist.
I don't show training videos of aerials normally because it's hard to capture the feeling of it through video and also because lets be real EGO. I like it to be done, fully set to music, polished and with lights and costume and the full SHEBANG! What I am working here on Steem is sharing more process and unfinished product because it's all a part of my process. It's all apart of my life as an artist.
Enjoy this little snap shot into my training life! I put some music over top for your viewing pleasure but in reality was working with the organized chaos around me. Kinda cool though how in the edit of it it can become its own little piece of art.
