Despite a great appearance by Sonny Gray the Reds ended up taking a loss in their opener against the Colorado Rockies. While Gray was on point with seven innings of 1 run baseball there wasn't enough insurance when the Reds bullpen took over.
David Hernandez stepped in to take over for Gray but didn't have near the luck. Hernandez quickly gave up a couple solo HR that ended up giving the Rockies their first lead of the day. Unfortunately the Reds were unable to provide enough offense in the 9th to put up another run and ended up taking the loss.
This now puts the Reds 5.5 games back in the National League Central. While that's certainly nothing that will disqualify them from contending we're going to need to start putting more winning stretches together if they want to be sure of a run in October.
Condensed Game: David Dahl and Daniel Murphy homered in the 8th inning as the Rockies defeated the Reds in come-from-behind fashion, 3-2
