Doing a nice background is a nice way to finish off a pencil portrait, especially if you're working with a picture that has very bright or white values on the edges, which makes it difficult to comprehend. Another good thing to do is to apply fixatives to keep the drawing from smudging, basically making the drawing permanent.
For the background, I started by blocking in the edges of the figures with a pencil which is the most sensitive an important part. I went on to spread graphite powder randomly on the remaining areas and blendedn it smoothly with some tissue paper and a brush.
Finally, I sprayed on a Winsor and Newton fixative. I'ts a very relaxing thing to do trust me. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it.
