WHAT IS LIFE WITHOUT MONEY???
It's nice if you are lucky enough to have the circumstances around you to be able to enjoy a life without having to depend on money.
I think that most people DO NOT have that luxury!
I AM ONE THAT DOESN'T.
Because I can attest to both sides of this coin. I have worked & made quite a comfortable living for a few years after graduate school. However, I am now in poverty, have nothing accessible left, no current income or job, no accessible savings, less than $30k in retirement. I still have $170,000 in student loan debt outstanding. I have had no sustainable income or employment in almost 10 years. The key word is "sustainable."
While I am grateful to God I still have a roof over my head, among a few other things, I would never choose what I am going through. This is a miserable existence.
I have been living with a relative for almost six years. That relative is my 80 year old mother, and she had a stroke due to my dependence on her and the financial stress my situation has caused. She has nothing left in retirement funds and still works outside the home today.
WHY is this happening?
Within 4 years of my post-grad from Rutgers Univ, after returning home in 1996, I was burdened with a life changing medical issue that came out of nowhere. It was like New England cast a spell on me!
The medical issue was enough to drastically change my life. Medication for the issue resulted in a $400 /mo bill that no insurance would cover. It put me in poverty.
Long story short, I eventually had to use my 401k to pay for the meds, along with trying to save my home too. I eventually sold, just before I ran out of money to support myself.
My medication is now only covered by a program that will help people who are ONLY in deep poverty. Is this a Catch 22? I went to University, studied overseas & got a graduate degree for . . . . WHAT ??
SO . . . LIFE WITHOUT MONEY?? Not for everybody. . . .
