A massive earthquake in Mexico on Tuesday killed 138 people, according to official statistics, with 30 people killed in Mexico City, where rescue operations are still ongoing.
Officials said the rescue teams were working amid the rubble of 29 collapsed buildings to look for survivors and recover the bodies of the victims.
According to Agence France-Presse, the death toll continued to rise steadily after the earthquake measuring 7.1 degrees, and now settled at 106 dead.
The state of Morelos, south of the capital, was the most affected by the quake, with 42 people killed, officials said.
Thirty people were confirmed dead in Mexico City.
The town of Puebla in the southeast of the capital killed 26 people, while in the state of Mexico City west of the capital killed eight victims of the earthquake.
The disaster occurred on Tuesday, the 32nd anniversary of the devastating 1985 earthquake that killed 10,000 people.
