Earthquake Channel Islands and emergency preparedness.
April 5, 2018
Here in California the earthquake was felt throughout Southern California. It was about noon and I was laying on my sofa. π I was watching a movie on Netflix with my little sister as a matter of fact it was the new terminator movie.
When all of a sudden around 12:29 PM I felt like I was dizzy π΅ for a few seconds. This is when I realized that an earthquake was in progress. Initially they were saying it was a 5.0, but I later went to the website that USGS and they had upgraded it to a 5.3.
I was watching the news later and they were saying it was a one of the strongest that we have had in several years.
So what? When?
For those of us that live in the Los Angeles region I would strongly advise to always be prepared. We never know what may happen or when it will happen. After watching the news and knowing that there is a 5% chance of a bigger earthquake. I think itβs time to plot out a shopping list for my families earthquake preparedness and evacuation plan.
Note: I will provide a list of items you will need towards the end.
How do I protect myself during an earthquake?
If you are in a building I would try to find a desk and hide under it. Preferably a wooden or metal sturdy type of structured desk. Also, any place in a home like a corner away from wall arts and falling parts.
If you are on the first floor I would simply evacuate any structure immediately. If you are outside look for an open place and stay away from the buildings, tree and power lines. Itβs normal to panic but you should try to remain composed during this process.
As a resident of Los Angeles all of my life I have been through many huge earth quakes. I have seen the streets shake so hard in a back and forth motion resembling waves in the ocean. Whole streets rock as if there was water waves underneath. Or even just the terrible shaking that happens all of a sudden I been through everything. Again I think its important to be prepared.
Finally, my list.
