You probably know someone that is always rude and ruins your mood every time you meet, but there are a few polite answers you could give them to make them stop.
Here are some examples of lines you should use to make your day better when someone annoys you.
Say “Thank you!” when someone offended you. Don’t be aggressive, stay calm, just say “thanks”. This way you’ll reduce to 0 the anger of that person and you’ll also maintain your maturity.
“I appreciate your point of view”. An answer like this will show that you can accept criticism in a rational way, not an emotional one.
Psychologists say that when someone makes rude comments about someone, they probably have a personal problem, and it’s not your business. When you give a nice and calm response, even the rudest person will show respect.
If you feel that the discussion is overwhelming you and you won’t be able to remain calm, simply say “The conversation is over”.
This way, you won’t ruin the relationship and you’ll also show that this kind of discussion is not acceptable for you.
Another answer you could give is “You’re right”. It might annoy that person, but most of the times, the conflict will be over.
When someone attacks you with words, try saying “You always find something mean to say, don’t you?”. It’s an emotional answer, but it will redirect the conversation to the other person, it’s a way of making someone “look in the mirror”.
Lastly, there is a line you could use that is a little sarcastic, but sometimes there’s no other way to talk to someone. The expression “What you said almost hurt my feelings” shows that whatever mean things someone has to say, their words don’t affect you.
