Since I was just a little girl, my mother had a way of wielding and creating whole worlds with a bedtime story or a simple work of art.
For my mother, the next few decades to come would be backbreaking.. quite literally and it looks like, at the age of 75, she is finally settling down to retire.
In the time she was slaving to keep my sister and I fed, she lost touch with her artistic side, picking it up again in lessons held by a friend; a group session of similarly aged ladies who ended up forming a deep connection with each other. It's been lovely to see my mom's passion for the arts come alive again as she not only picks up her own brush, but enjoys live theatre and, of course supports my music wherever possible.
this was supposed to be my mother's last stint in the UK, as she tried to replenish her savings, but injury to her nerves, especially around the spine and lumbar regions, have made it impossible for her to continue her vocation.
In an effort to maintain her sanity as she weighs up all her options while she ties up as many loose ends as she can while still in London, she has taken to drawing and painting a lot lately.
The results of continuous dedication and practice are outstanding. I am immensely proud of her.
