Hello everyone, warm greetings from this sideline.
INTRODUCTION
My school Federal University Otuoke Bayelsa state in Nigeria, has being operating on manual library for a very long time now, so as a final year student I choose to take up the problem and find solution to it as I have also been learning web development for a while, of which I first designed a mini portal website, you can check my introductory to have a look.
THE MANUAL LIBRARY
Before now the school doesn't keep data of students and books in the library sequel to that loss of books, and the students reading attitude towards love of learning depreciated. Then, books are kept in the shelves and the data of students accessing and borrowing books from the library has been recorded on paper which always result to loss due to accident such as fire outbreak.
NOW THE WEB-BASED LIBRARY
The web-based library system designed by me consist of the four web pages;
HOME PAGE: that serves as an entrance to access other webpages such as dashboard of Admin and students
ABOUT PAGE: The web page displays what the website is all about.
STUDENTS LOGIN: This web page serves as an entrance to the main functionality of the website that is needed by the student and on the students portal, the section include: borrow book, history of the book borrowed.
ADMINISTRATION LOGIN: This web page serves as an entrance to the main functionality of the website that is needed to monitor and keep track of all the activities carried out by students and the books involve. The admin dashboard section include add students, add books, add admin, view records of all activities in the library.
WHY WEB-BASED LIBRARY?
The function of this web-based library is to eradicate the paper method used in manual process.
For instance, in the manual library a student has to be physically present to borrow a book but the web-based library gives room for borrowing the book online then come with receipt to the library which the admin will use to authenticate the validity before books are issued.
In addition, the admin staff can keep track of the books already added and can also add a student.
THE ESSENCE OF THE WEB-BASED LIBRARY
Every Information about the library once added goes to the database and loss of information eliminated.
TECHNOLOGIES USED
In designing this web-based library, I made use of;
HTML(Hypertext mark-up language) to structure the web pages and its Content.
CSS(cascading stylesheet) to make it presentable to the viewers
Bootstrap: To make it responsive so it can work both in desktops and Android phones
Javascript: to add real time response to it.
Php: to make the buttons dynamic.
Xampp: used to deploy the website.
The hosting of the website will be done when the school has accessed it and gives the order.
