The global economy is doing badly. We all notice that. We're generally worse off than previous generations. Numerous stats confirm this. And the Hollywood movie industry is one example.
The Wall Street Journal reports that at the end of 2024, there were only 100,000 motion picture jobs in Los Angeles County, compared to 142,000 two years earlier.
That’s a 30 percent collapse.
But is the movie industry collapsing because of the economic downturn, or is it something else? Sure, there's the cry of AI taking all the writing and soon acting jobs. There's the overall recession and fourth industrial revolution or turning.
Or is it because those who are trying to steer the collective mindset via movie propaganda are just making stupid movies?
Why did the studios decrease production? Easy. All that content they produced failed to attract enough streaming subscribers to justify the production costs. And the reason all that content failed to attract subscribers was because almost all of that content was shit, and almost all of that content was shit because it was poisoned with social justice, woketardery, gay stuff, grooming, obnoxious girl-bosses, and smug, humorless heroes.
Just look at Netflix and tell me you haven't also noticed the trends? Maybe I'm from an older generation but it's hard to find a movie that I will enjoy any more. Content has become darker (literally and figuratively). More gratuitous violence, perversion and weak male characters, with unrealistically strong female heroes.
Elon Musk recently pushed a campaign to quit Netflix. It's now global. I'm sure he's not the only one noticing, but he's the most well known and so something is going on here. You can decide if it's true or not.
I'm too old and cynical at this stage of my life, so I'm too biased and my opinion is subjectively based on concepts that may not be the norm any more. Call it the generation gap.
So you make your own informed choice and have a personal opinion. We all are familiar with the movie industries, with arts and entertainment. And tastes differ. That's normal. So my opinion is not fact, it's just opinion.
Let the free market decide what is attractive and what is not. Movie script writers will simply be obliged to follow the money, as all free markets do.
We're not in a totalitarian dictatorship yet, are we? Some degree of free speech, and market dynamics still exist. And the 30% collapse in movie production could be due to a combination of things. Let's see where this goes.
Perhaps it's better to just watch a nature documentary at this stage of the journey. Independant media channels are full of inspiring and tasteful choices.
