Thank you ! It's preety cool, they collect salt on to their leaves from special glands, when the leaf drops it makes the forest floor very salty thus making it harder for other plants to grow. This link gives a lot of information about the species:

On our last trip two days ago we saw a fox and some parrots. Not very tough looking but certainly resistent in this dry habitat.
