Steemit Action Summer Holiday Program (SASH-Program)
"using steem power (SP/SBD) to educate and engage young people in community service"
What is Community Service?
Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is often done near the area where the volunteers live, so that their community reaps the benefits of their work. Volunteers do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes food and small gifts, like a t-shirt, are given to them.
What is SASH Program?
The Steemit Action Summer Holiday Program (SASH-Program) is a community service program that strives to use the power of steem to educate, inspire and engage young people of the North West Region of Cameroon to in community service during this 2018 summer holiday.
From July 1st to August 30th 2018, will educate, inspire and engage at least 20 young people (aged 06 – 17) in community service that is aimed at cleaning up, fixing up and conserving the environment of the North West Region of Cameroon.
Some of the activities envisaged for these two months include trainings in leadership, plastic collection and recycling, tree seed collection, nursing and tree planting, anti-litter campaigns, arts for environment, sports for environment, etc.
At the end of their 02 months community service program, will use all the SBD generated from blogging about these young people’s activities to surprise them with “Back to School” gift materials i.e.
will purchase books, school bags, school uniforms, etc and give to these young people.
Why the SASH Program?
Image
Experience has proven that engaging young people in community service provides them with the opportunity to become active members of their community and this has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service or volunteerism enables young people to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.
When young people are actively involved community service projects, they are contributing to the strength of their community while also building the strength of their character. It is important to actively engage youth so that they can go into the world as adults and be confident and productive citizen leaders within their communities.
The SASH-Program strives to nurture a new generation of young change-makers.
