Definition:تعریف

A word that modifies a noun or a pronoun is known as adjective.

ایسا لفظ جو اسم کی  مزید وضاحت کرے اسم صفت کہلاتاہے۔

Degree of Adjective:(اسم صفت کی حالتیں)

There are three degree of adjectives:

1)  Positive   2) Comparative  3) Superlative

1) Positive Degree of Adjective:

It shows personal qualities or state of noun or pronoun.

اسم ضمیر کی ذاتی صفات کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔

Examples:

A good boy,Beautiful girl, Wise man, Tall tree,Tasty rice,delicious sweet etc.

In these, good,beautiful,wise,tall,tasty and delicious are positive degree of adjective.

2) Comparative Degree of Adjective:

It shows comparison b/w two persons and things.

دو چیزوں یا افراد کے درمیان تقابل کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔

e.g

Ali is more intelligent than Tahir.

I have prettier doll than you have.

He is older than his brother.

3) Superlative Degree of Adjective:

It shows the higest quality.

یہ سب سے اعلیٰ خصوصیت کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔

e.g

She is prettiest girl in her family.

I have largest balloon.

He is most intelligent student of his college.

Rules of Making Degree of comparison of Adjective.

1) To make comparative degree "er" is added at the end of positive form of degree and for making superlative degree "est" is added at the end of positive form of degree.

e.g

Small                 smaller             smallest

Tall                    Taller                 Tallest

Happy               Happier             Happiest

Pretty                Prettier               Prettiest

Poor                   Poorer                Poorest

Weak                 Weaker               Weakest

Clever                Cleverer             Cleverest

2) By adding "more" and "most" before positive degree of adjective to make comparative and superlative degree of adjective respectively.

e.g

Beautiful                        more beautiful                  most beautiful

Intelligent                      more intelligent                most intelligent

Difficult                          more difficult                    most difficult

Important                      more important                most important

Doubtful                         more doubtful                   most doubtful

3) Some degree change in irregular way.

e.g

Good                        Better                             Best

Kind                         Kinder                            Kind most

Bad                           Worse                            Worst

Little                        less                                  least

Much                       More                               Most

Many                      more                                 most
