Quick Notes:
Topic: Face Our Biggest Fear Should be One of Our Main Goal for The New Year
Our fear can be in various form and it is always the fear that prevents us from breaking the current form. A word shared by Ray Dalio that he had his resolution set to overcome his fear every year, each year tackling one and turn it into our weapon of success.
If we are not sure about what is the most feared things in our life, we can try to write our mistakes and pain in our life. I also trying to really identify and pinpoint my fear. For example, I found myself poor in following deadline. There are times where I set myself deadlines and I cannot cope with it. I get frustrated and ended up making the tasks open ended. Due to most of the tasks that I’m handling are unique cases with only few with repeated experience, I find it hard to gauge the deadline and incapability to follow strictly. The feeling of failing my own target dragged me and it caused me to be indiscipline through time as I have loss my confidence in setting targets for myself. This happened with project as well. Nonetheless, this fear of mine, which I can consider as fear of losing ‘reputation’ for not following deadline may not be as dire as it sounds. Even Elon Musk himself with such crazy productivity find it hard to get things done within allocated time. Steemit Inc also faces problems of completing different infrastructure due to unforeseen events that happen.
Well, this fear of mine should not be a part of me that obstruct me for pushing myself again and again until I grasp the real deadline and efficiency that I wanted to have all along. Some time, things will not happen according to our planning, like most of the time, unless they are involving with minimal parties and complexity is relatively low. When tasks get more complex, we should allocate more buffer time for mistakes and this will allow us to have more breathing time than giving up as we will definitely not complete the tasks by the given deadline.
Last year, I faced several events with such failing moments and it scared me to give a deadline for the clients I am dealing with. Well, for whatever reason, I needed to be more thick faced and face the challenges. If I failed, I will need to brace myself up and faster recover with solution. Chicken out is definitely not the way. At the same time, I needed to have my own recording of tasks and time spent. This is essential for me to keep track of my own production. I had tried this a few times but failed all the time. This is because I always judge myself for not being productive. Even though there are no one who raised this up, I am feeling guilty for being not efficiently spending my time as I imagine I should be.
So another fear of mine is to not become the imagined version of ‘perfect’ me who can perform superbly. This is somehow irrational and should not be such. I need to allow myself to have a space for growth and continue to improve. With that being said, taking notes for my learning process is also part of my resolution to improve.
This is a learning notes series of mine for subscribing to Dedao App, which is a learning App available on iOS and Android. If you are able to understand Chinese and an avid learner, this app is definitely a thing for you! I was using this app since it was launched and I had greatly benefited by following the courses offered. This year, I would like to improve myself by increasing my output which is through doing study notes. I will be perfecting the notes day by day and my resolution is to make 365 notes this year every day (if missed like today, I will be putting up for the missed days).
