Teachers are some of the most valuable people in our society and the most underappreciated. I remember the good, bad and saintly and they've all had a transformative impact in my life. It's a shame that such a wealthy country like the US doesn't do more to retain teachers, leaving many in unstable jobs with poverty wages. The resulting shortage hurts us all.
To celebrate this day, Google has launched an entire series for teachers and to educate the public about their roles. Please post your experiences about the best or worst teachers you've had, or your own experiences as teachers :)
