The Founder
The movie The Founder starts off with a man named Ray Kroc. Ray Kroc was a salesman that went to different restaurants trying to sell his machine. Kroc came across a local restaurant that wanted his machines for their kitchen. The owners at the time were two brothers Dick and Mac McDonald who ran the business McDonald’s. Ray Kroc was very interested in how this restaurant operated and how the two brothers ran it. Kroc saw the success in the business early and decided he wanted to be the one that was franchising the business. Ray Kroc successfully franchises the business but still sees hardly any profit with the deal he agreed on with Dick and Mac McDonald. Trying to renegotiate Dick and Mac disagree and do not want the deal to change. Kroc met a man at the bank that showed Kroc a loophole to start turning profit. Kroc listened and started buying up all the land the McDonald’s sat on. Doing this led to Ray Kroc striking a deal and taking ownership of all McDonald’s. The two brothers were left with nothing other than a check for 1.3 million dollars each and they did not ever receive their royalties.
I found this movie interesting in a couple ways. The first interest would be how Ray Kroc saw this business as a success very early off. I found this interesting because the business took several tries and failed even with franchising. What made Ray Kroc look past that and still see the good in the company? The second interest I found would be how fast a business can be swept away by someone when the wrong decisions are made. The reason this was interesting was because quick decisions and decisions that are not supervised by a lawyer can leave a business in total distraught. This was a big learning moment because anyone could come in very professional and act like they want to help when really they want to take everything.
The Founder Ray Kroc would be the entrepreneur that established the relationship with society. He did this by giving the society what they wanted and that would be more McDonald’s. He franchised the business into several different states and areas leaving the society happy because they could have the restaurant closer to where they live. The reason the two brothers did not establish a good relationship was because they could not successfully franchise the business and give the people what they wanted. Having more restaurants closer to other popular locations and areas lead to more customers coming because it is closer. Having more customers that are happy builds a better relationship between them and the business leading to bigger profits and more customers. Having a relationship with the society and how society looks at the business is a big part in being a successful entrepreneur. It can even be the deciding factor in which your business is successful or not.
