Other People’s Money
This movie starts off with a guy named “Larry The Liquidator” and he raids corporate businesses. Larry has become wealthy by buying up companies and selling the companies assets. In this movie “Other People’s Money” Larry’s next raid is on a business called New England Wire and Cable Company. Just like every business that Larry raids, the New England Wire Company was going broke. The company hired a family lawyer to try and fight back against Larry. The family lawyer is named Kate Sullivan and she tries several different things to try and stop Larry from putting the business to an end. A deal between Larry and Kate's mother was even tried to be made for one million dollars to leave the business alone and Larry turned that down. Larry is showing entrepreneurship and shows what we discuss in class by finding businesses or companies that have a low demand and he finds a better way to invest money where there is higher demand.
The reason I found the movie “Other People’s Money” very interesting was because of a couple reasons. The first reason I found this movie interesting was how fast someone like Larry can destroy a business by the business that he is in. I also found that Larry as a character in the movie was very interesting. Larry did not care about anyone but himself. All Larry wanted was the money and did not care what situation that put other people or businesses in. Larry understood that people's jobs / careers could come to an end by doing what he does but being an entrepreneur sometimes takes selfishness just like Larry to be a profitable business person.
The interaction or relationship between entrepreneurship and society was a very good interaction if you are on the “Larry the Liquidator” side of the movie. On the other hand, New England Wire Companies interaction with society was not as good as Larry’s. The reason for this is because the shareholders decided to agree with Larry’s plea but this left New England Wire Company with no money putting people out of jobs. Society or the shareholders decided to agree with Larry because they realized just like Larry said, “Who Cares” about the people with jobs they just wanted to put their money somewhere they could make more money than what they were. As we discussed in class, with being a good entrepreneur you have an idea that could help or make society easier. Larry helps society by having the idea to find businesses and companies that could make people more money. Consumers love this because who can turn down more money. Bringing more and more consumers in. In conclusion, Larry is a very good entrepreneur in the movie “Other People's Money” and very good at his job. Other people might think Larry is a bad businessman but on the aspect of being an entrepreneur Larry is a complete success even though he does not put off the best personality.
