A farmer broke the three-decade reign of incumbent family in Palawan last Philippine election in May 13.
Gerandy Danao won mayor of Narra after his 15,062 votes surpassed Lucy Demaala's 14,029 votes. The reign of Demaala clan finally ends with a thousand votes gained by a local farmer.
Danao spend years caring for goats and fishing in nearby shore of Narra. He is popular among his locality in cutting branches of Ipil-ipil (River Tamarind) as food for his pet goats.
Lacked of fund, weak machinery and small donation from relatives and friends does not stop him to compete albeit courage and down-to-earth popularity put him to the worthy position. "Without the courage to run, who will fight them?", said by Danao.
