Rob Booth's Electronic Explorations hit its tenth birthday recently. For those who don't know, Electronic Explorations started off as a dubstep podcast birthed in beloved mixtape torrent community themixingbowl. The series gradually broadened out into the full spectrum of forward thinking electronic music, his love for electro and techno shining through. His amazing ear for sounds led him to a job as A&R for London superclub Fabric's record label Houndstooth - which incidentally is having an amazing year with two of its artists, Call Super and Paul Woolford's Special Request, both gracing the venue's main mix series and releasing critically received second albums.
From crowdsourcing advice and assistance in hosting a podcast in a world where streaming media was yet to take off, Rob Booth's Electronic Explorations is now an industry leader.
He has given top billing for the series anniversary show to another artist who is on the up, Aleksi Perälä. Aleksi is known for his Colundi Sequence releases, which are based around a his own series of custom designed scales (there is also huge Q&A on Gearslutz about it for the curious). The last twelve months have seen him elevate from a wealthy back catalogue of self-released works onto top tier record labels such as Clone and a release lined up on Nina Kraviz's ever eclectic Trip imprint.
His knack for angular melodic techno is drawing many admirers, which often parallels AFX on top groove laden form or Petar Dundov on one of his cosmic synth journeys. Don't take my word for it though, jump into the mix below to experience it for yourself. Also make sure you check by the latest Houndstooth release, this choice set of Second Storey remixes - this one is vinyl only and will vanish soon.
