The current Elephant (Elephas maximus), especially all Asian elephants and its sub-species, including critically endangered animals in the red list of endangered species released by the World Conservation Society-IUCN, including the Sumatran Elephant. In Indonesia, Sumatran elephants are also included in protected wildlife according to Law No. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Resources and Ecosystems and regulated in the government regulation yiatu PP 7/1999 on the Preservation of Plant and Animal Species. The entry of Sumatran Elephants (Elephas maximus sumatrensis) in the list is due to illegal logging activities, habitat depletion and fragmentation, as well as killings due to conflict and hunting. Hunting is usually only tusked, while the rest of the body is left to rot in the location.
