Liège is nicknamed la cité ardente (loosely translates as the fiery city) and if you wanted more prove of it, you should visit Place Saint Lambert, the place where once the Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Lambert cathedral stood. In 1794 it was demolished by the Liègeois and as such probably the only religious place in the world that was knocked down by its' own citizens...
