Embekke Devalaya is the best place in Sri Lanka, maybe in the world, to see the most beautiful wood carvings. This Devalaya is dedicated to the god Kataragama.
The Embekke Devalaya was built around 1370. This period belongs to the Gampole regime, when King Wickramabahu 11 ruled Sri Lanka. According to historical information, this temple was made by Queen Henakanda Bisobandara. The drummer from neighboring village Rangama was also involved. This Devalaya had a three story building, but it's not available now.
