A while ago I restarted my Postcard Experiment to send a postcard to Hivers anywhere around the world. Quite a few contacted me, some who I know on chain already and some whom I didn't, but now I do. That's the beauty of this experiment, you get to meet new friends. In total, I got 12 requests from 11 countries from all corners of the world. I'd say that's a success!!
I bought a pack of lovely postcards when I went up to Alishan the other week. Alishan is Taiwan's most famous range of mountains and I figured it would be great to showcase this famous landmark to people around the world.
When I went to the post office to get the stamps, it was quite a fiddly job, not for me but the post office staff. He had to manually check the price for each of the 11 countries on his computer, ranging from the Philippines and Japan, Taiwan's neighbour to as far as Latin America. In the end, there were three different price bands ranging from NTD10 to NTD13, that's USD0.31 to USD0.40. Personally, I think it's a lot of effort to price them differently when the difference is so small. Why not have just one price band?
However, the good(?) thing about checking the countries on the computer was that we found out we can't send anything from Taiwan to Venezuela and Cuba. Sorry and
! Then my husband said why not mail them from UK instead when we return? Although that's not ideal as I wanted to send everything from Taiwan, but sometimes things don't go your way and you have to accept the next best option.
The other ten postcards have been mailed today. I can't wait to hear when they arrive to their recipients. The other two will have to wait till the end of the month till I get back to the UK.
Would you like to receive a postcard from Taiwan? I promise it's all written and posted by a real human being, none of the stupid AI crap. If you do, please feel free to send me a message on Discord before Friday 10th March. Contact details are in this post. There is no catch to this and no cost to you, and don't worry it won't cost me much as Taiwanese postage is as cheap as chips. You just need to trust a stranger in Hive with your address. Look forward to hearing from you!
