At my old job, I was involved with the design and construction of industrial waste landfills. A byproduct of mass consumerism and oil production. Now I'm involved with improving community infrastructure, and helping the city embolden their mass transit infrastructure -- while making the streets safer for users.
We were unloading some new concrete bases for street lighting today because the existing ones were done so poorly that the pools were wobbling and in danger of falling over eventually.
The change in scenery is an added benefit as well - it's nice working around home, and getting to improve the place where I live.
