Mr. Richard Starkey, more known like Ringo Starr (Liverpool, England, 7 of July of 1940), is a musician, singer, composer and British actor who was the drummer of the musical band The Beatles. Before joining The Beatles, Starr was a member of another Liverpool band, Rory Storm & The Hurricanes
Drummer Ringo Starr was decorated with the Order of the Knight of the British Empire, a distinction he had received in 1965 as a member of The Beatles but not on an individual level, by Prince William, at Buckingham Palace
He has become Sir on Tuesday after being named by the Duke of Cambridge Knight of the British Empire, at a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace. The one who was a member of the legendary Liverpool quartet The Beatles, has assured that it is "an honor and a pleasure" to be "considered and recognized" for his music and for his charitable work, since he loves both. Starr, 77, whose real name is Richard Starkey, attended the ceremony accompanied by his wife, Barbara Bach, with whom he married in 1981.

The distinction comes 21 years after beatle Paul McCartney, who received it in 1997, and 53 years after the four members of the band - who complete John Lennon and George Harrison - were named Members of the British Empire. However, in 1969, Lennon returned his decoration to the British monarch in protest of the British government's support for the US invasion of Vietnam.
In addition to Starr, the award was received by musician Barry Gibb, the only survivor of the Bee Gees group, and actor Hugh Laurie, known for his role in the House series. The ex-leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, Nick Clegg; the writer Michael Morpurgo, author of Battlehorse (work taken to the cinema by Steven Spielberg); and election poll expert, John Curtice, have also been named gentlemen.
A total of 1,123 people, including celebrities and anonymous citizens, today received decorations of different rank in Buckingham Palace.
