Bijou Cocktail
Bijou means jewel in French and receives this name for the tonality resulting from the...
combination of ingredients: the diamond of the gin, the ruby of the Vermouth and the emerald of the chartreuse. The first reports of the Bijou appear in the book Harry Johnson Bartender's Guide, from the early 20th century, although it is very likely that this cocktail was invented at the end of the 19th century. Surprising for its tonality, but also for its aroma, reminiscent of chocolate.
Ingredients
3 parts gin
1 part Chartreuse
1 part sweet vermouth
Orange peel skin
The Bijou is prepared with ice by mixing all the ingredients in the shaker, but it is served in a martini glass without ice. It is usually stirred with a cherry.
