French 75 Cocktail
Indeed, the French 75 produces a blow to the senses that was once compared to the French 75...
shot from the 75-millimeter French cannon, created in 1898. The cocktail arrived a little later, in 1915, and was created by Harry MacElhone, the bartender at Harry's New York Bar in Paris. He soon made the leap to the United States, where he became popular, especially at the Stork Club in New York.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons syrup
2 parts gin
1 part Brut Champagne (variable)
A lemon peel or a cherry to garnish
If you've never tried French 75, it's a good idea to mix the juice, syrup and gin with ice first, shake it well and add small amounts of champagne until you've found the optimum point. In some areas of New York you will need to specify that the French 75 be with gin, as many locals serve it with cognac. It is an ideal cocktail for the summer.
