Freshly out of the military after the second world war, a young musician by the name of Jackie Brenston joined with a group called the Kings of Rhythm. He had originally signed with Sun Records but eventually moved on and joined with Chess Records in Chicago, where he would become the lead singer of the Delta Cats. In March of 1951, the group came out with the song "Rocket 88" which would ultimately become known as the first rock 'n' roll song in history, preceding even Bill Haley's "Rock around the Clock", which was written first written in 1952.
