Hello everyone! Welcome / Welcome back 😀 If you're new here, feel free to browse around. HBM is centered around providing value, fostering a healthy community, encouraging creativity, being honest, and seeking growth. I talk more about those things in my first post here: https://bit.ly/3vnV7Hh
If you're returning, thank you so much for your support and feedback. Each week I aim to improve the quality of content presented to you. I appreciate you holding me accountable in that area.
So, I was walking the other night and started to think if there were any negative connotations to the word “bloom” or “blooming.” And then – Late Bloomer appeared. As the title says, I wanted to tackle the stigma of being one of those.
I’ll be thirty years old this year and it’s weird to think that I’ve existed for this long already lol (I’ll use “lol” as a punctuation from time to time).
No matter your own age, throughout our years, we’re naturally compared to those around us. During primary school days, the winning teams in each field day category would get ribbons. The student with the best talent show act became immensely popular for the rest of the school year. Even the “friendly” comparison of your own siblings – who’s going to be the tallest, who’ll be married first, who’s the funniest? I bet a memory of yours popped up for each thing listed.
Everyone will agree, except the companies themselves and some influencers, that social media is the endless supply of posts that shout “LOOK WHO I AM AND MY STATUS IN LIFE IS UNATTAINABLE FOR YOU COMMONERS!”
And you can’t help but scroll through to see if this stranger’s life is in fact better than yours. Even worse, they’re your own age. They actually own a yacht, but HOW? First you HAVE TO buy their ebook on how to live a better life than reality itself. Oh, and lots of manifesting without any action and sipping hot lemon water or matcha latte. Okay, so, you’re in right? No?
Believe me, this was as painful for me (well, my ego at least) to write as it was for you to read.
Are we actual late bloomers if we don’t match up to the popular kids online?
Not at all. Success and progress of an individual is up to the individual. You are in control of what you want your life to be.
I was watching a podcast on YouTube and the guest declared that “enjoyment brings fulfillment.”
What a stunning thought!
There is no joy in comparison, so why even engage in the act?
The tagline for HBM is to add “value to your growing mindstyle and brand.” (I’ll talk more about mindstyle in an upcoming blog).
But this where the conversation can begin. Whatever you’re feeding your mind, that is ultimately where your life is headed. Powerful, right?
I only know where I’m headed because I’m aware of what I’m allowing to go in and out of my mind.
This includes the music I listen to, the videos I watch, the people I’m around, what I think about, etc.
Do those things that you invite/allow in your life accurately reflect who you want to be and where you want to be?
Self-awareness is one of the most invaluable tools a person can possess. You can start this process by logging your daily activity (write what you ate throughout the day, how long you stayed on your phone scrolling on social media, how long did you listen to music, etc.)
Once you discipline yourself to be accountable with your time spent, it’ll encourage you to think how to spend your time and mind better.
It does take time to do so, but you’ll adapt faster than you think.
The true stigma of being a late bloomer is the negative context around it.
Truth is, it’s never too late to bloom.
Your life is what you make of it.
I’ll see you in the next post. Stay well.
