Hello everyone! Welcome / Welcome back 😀 If you're new here, feel free to browse around. HBM is centered around providing value, fostering a healthy community, encouraging creativity, being honest, and seeking growth. I talk more about those things in my first post here: https://bit.ly/3vnV7Hh
If you're returning, thank you so much for your support and feedback. Each week I aim to improve the quality of content presented to you. I appreciate you holding me accountable in that area.
Did you catch last week’s post? If you missed it, here you go: https://bit.ly/3hLxSyO
The title says it all. Now, I know we’re in mid-March, but if you haven’t even decided on your word of the year or you’re considering its revision, then let me ask you some questions to help solidify your decision.
What’s your current word?
How did you decide?
Do you feel it represents the trajectory you’re on for this year thus far?
Does it summarize your vision for this year?
Is it compatible with your life’s mission statement?
As you answer those questions, I’ll share my word with you and the reason for it.
2022 is my year of being consistent. I chose this word because it’s something I had been lacking in my own life.
I was a master starter and a skilled drop out.
As I started listening to leadership content and reading about how to reset my mindset, that’s when I was able to make a mental shift. Learning about how to improve myself forced me to acknowledge the ever-widening chasm I created between my wants and the application of action to receive what I wanted. (I’ll dive more into this my next post).
Your self-inventory will reveal deficient areas in your life, resulting in growth opportunities.
Last month while I was reading “The Leader’s Greatest Return”, a statement hit me like a ton of bricks. I hope it also results in the same manner for you.
John Maxwell, the author, described how his younger years in leadership weren’t anywhere near who he has become now. A person in his circle said to him that “he was not good enough to stay the same.”
Are you good enough to stay the same?
Have you already become the person you’ve always wanted to be?
Do you think you’ve outgrown growth itself?
The truth is that no one can truly say “yes” to these questions. However, if you’re content with where you are, I encourage you to rethink your “comfortability.”
Your comfort zone can easily become a blind spot. (This should be my BBQ for this post lol).
Consistency for me is being able to stay focused and replicate action that brings the desired results.
This blog for example, was a secret project for that I’d procrastinated on some time. My back burner was way overcrowded because I didn’t have to pay rent with real money for my procrastination storage.
But there was a far greater cost: time.
Time that I spend avoiding what I needed to do. Time wasted by romanticizing the possibly of what could be done in my 24/7 daydream lenses.
See, I’ve always known I was supposed to be a writer of some sort. I wasn’t sure what avenue I would take, but online writing wasn’t something I had initially planned.
However, it was a start towards consistency.
You are accountable for how your own life turns out.
I recently had a talk with my youngest brother. And during our discussion, I was emphasizing the importance of the five areas of value we all have to take care of.
Body. Mind. Money. Time. Relationships.
They’re not in any particular order. (Feel free to add more categories to your own list).
Those listed areas make me aware of where I need to apply my consistency in.
Your current life is the summary of what you’ve done in those areas.
So, how can you improve?
I mentioned earlier about your life’s mission statement. All your life’s decisions are based on what you want your life to be.
If you haven’t made one yet, then that can explain why you’re not where you thought you ought to be.
This is for me too. I can empathize with worrying or wondering how you’re actually going to achieve your big goals when no one in your family or friend group has ever accomplished what you want. Or the people you look up to are a far distance away from you.
Let me encourage you: BE THE FIRST ONE AND SHOW OTHERS HOW TO DO IT TOO!
If you keep that in mind, you’re one step closer to defining your own life’s mission statement and in turn, can choose your word for this year.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post as much I have enjoyed writing this. This has to be my favorite yet only because I know that this will inspire intentional action on your part, and I can’t wait to read your comments.
I’ll see you in the next post. Stay well.
