In this exercise, I'd like you to select a book from the second half of the Official ENT 3003 Reading List and report on it. This part of the list focuses on books that cover, generally, entrepreneurship, business, and learning. I'd like you to address the following in your post:
The book I picked was Clay Shirky’s Cognitive Surplus.
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
More people today have more free time but spend it watching TV or looking at their cell phone. I couldn’t agree more that society is slowly getting brainwashed and lazy.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
The part that enhanced me was when Clay Shirkly was describing how jobs are changing. Back in the day we got paid to build an object or move an object. Now a day’s people are getting paid more to ‘Think’ then actually ‘Build’.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would ask the class to create a company that helped solve a problem that relates to all people. No matter the age, size, shape, sex, religion ect of the person.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
I like when he described how we thought of the 8-hour work day. 8 full hours of work, then 8 hours of free time, and 8 hours of sleep.
