A new technology coming out around September 2017 are SolarGaps Blinds. These blinds generate electricity from solar energy while shading your windows and keeping your house cool! Double win!
How the technology will fit into your life
The technology will be plug-and-play, they should track the sun through the sky during the day and produce clean energy for your house.
This is a fantastic way for people in apartment blocks to install solar energy as they don't normally have access to the rooftop. For the haters of how solar generation panes can look these blinds will blend in with the 'normal home' look.
The SolarGaps Blinds can be installed inside or outside windows. They will be shipped with a small motor so that blinds can be manually and automatically raised and lowered. This is such a simple idea that hopefully takes off.
The blinds are created with SunPower solar cells. This brand provides quality and a supposed 25 year lifespan.
According to SolarGaps one square meter of the blinds can produce 100 watt-hours of electricity each day, when installed outside your window. This reduced to 50 watt-hours when installed inside. If you are achieving 100 watt-hours this is enough to run 3 Macbooks - clean energy to create SteamPower in my eyes!
