The one reason that I like to live here in Oman is the clean environment that it has. A good clean environment makes a lot of difference on health and especially for hubby who has constant respiratory issues, in his case a good clean environment helps a lot. Normally people say that we need to plant more trees to reduce pollution, of course and other measures also, I also believed the same. But after living here in Oman I do not feel that way. This is a dry land, we do not have any forests, There are trees planted all over in the city but they are just few along the highway roads, and yet the air is cleanest here. I am not denying that planting trees do not play any role in a clean environment. Irrespective clean environment can be attained with lot of other measures.
The main pollutant figure needs to be checked, if it's above 20 then the AQI is not healthy. Imagine when this figure is 60 or 70 how poor the air quality will be.
Our AQI levels here in Muscat city are normally between 15 and 20, which is very good and some times it is 5 also which is excellent, like today. Everyday morning I check the AQI level just so that I am aware. Being outdoor feels pleasure with good and clean air to breathe. In Dec and Jan while I was in Mumbai, I would not feel like steeping out of the home, the AQI there was 65 and 70, miserably poor and you can feel the difference. At home we use air purifiers to minimize the impact. As much as I love Mumbai city and love to live there, this is one thing that always stresses me out. Invariably I end up with a throat infection or cough and cold when I am in the city, if not major but then some impact is there, and especially if I am there for a longer time. The winter months are miserable.
First of all in Mumbai forever there is construction work going on and too many vehicles on the road, both of these are major contributors to the poor air quality of the city. There are redevelopment projects going on, small buildings are demolished and in their place high rises are being built. The government is not putting any measures on at a time how many construction projects should be carried on so that it does not impact the environment much. When I step out, I see almost every area has 2 or 3 construction projects going on and that too without any proper safety measures for the environment.
Anyways life goes on like that, right now I am enjoying the clean Air quality here in Muscat and it really makes me feel good.
